Donor Drive Registers 30 Donors in Bedford.

At the end of November last year, our volunteers registered 30 potential stem cell donors at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Queen’s Park, Bedford. The donor drive was organised by the Jaskomal Foundation, set-up in memory of 23 year-old Jaskomal Sher-Gill – who tragically passed away in 2013, following a two year battle with Lymphoma cancer. There is a shortage of donors from Asian, Black and other ethnic minority backgrounds; less than 4% of potential donors on the national register are Asian, according to blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan...

Family campaigns after losing loved one

Jaskomal Sher-Gill with her mother Photo: ITV News Anglia A family from Bedfordshire are campaigning for more people to donate stem cells in memory of a much loved daughter and sister. 23-year-old Jaskomal Sher-Gill from Clifton, near Shefford, died in January this year. Two years before, she had been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, a cancer of the blood. During her illness, Jaskomal’s older brother Joban had donated stem cells after finding out he was a match for his sister. The transplant was succesful, but Jaskomal’s immune system...
